  2. Objectives • Serve practitioners in disaster risk reduction and related areas • Inform on ongoing disaster reduction initiatives and trends - overview of application • Develop a monitoring system for assessing progress • Serve as networking and information exchange tool

Information collection and organization process • Advisory Panel- two meetings • National questionnaires • Regional reviews (7) • Consultant/s (since September 2001) • Agencies and experts, info upon request • On-line debate related to WSSD • Information system design • Coordination with IFRC and UNDP A GREAT DEAL OF INFORMATION!

UNDP- World Vulnerability Report/Index • UNDP-VWR: • ANALYSIS of key issues: disasters and development; risk and vulnerability accumulation. • INDEXING countries: risk, INDICATORS measuring risk and disaster reduction • ISDR-GR: • OVERVIEW OF APPLICATION risk reduction globally • MONITORING progress over time

  6. ISDR and UNDP collaboration • CURRENT status for the reports: • Joint working group -compatibility • Streamlined risk reduction frameworks for both documents • Cross referencing • Agreed mutual support for launch/promotion at WSSD (promotional package…)

Expected Future UNDP-ISDR Future joint project/process is being developed to cover: a/ One advocacy document, with country index/indicators • b/Progress review document to disseminate the application of disaster reduction globally • c/Monitoring tool for progress in disaster reduction - collection and development of relevant tools and guidelines for various sectors

  8. c/Web site reference data base on the detailed information on expertise available, programmes /projects, systematically stored with a view to network various initiatives This work should include other relevant UN and non-UN agencies and organisations
