  1. BiK-F Seminar Series Dr. Miklós Bálint (BiK-F) ThursdayNovember 15@ 4 PM , Room 320, Jügelhaus Cryptic communities in times of climate change: a metabarcoding approach I am interested in characterizing the responses of fungal communities to the environment. Using thousands of DNA reads from pyrosequencing we showed that the infection of tree leafs by tree leaf fungi is not random, contrary to previous assumptions: it is connected to the genotypes of the host trees. As a follow-up, we want to understand the effects of artificial warming on fungal community composition. We can also reconstruct communities from past geological times using sediment cores. I am planning to analyze plant, fungal, diatom and invertebrate communities in sediment cores that are over 15,000 years old. In the first step I amplified chloroplast loci from 28 dated sediment layers.
