  2. SENIORITIS! • Don’t lose sight of the goal • Final transcript verifies admission • Colleges DO rescind admissions • Notify Admissions of class changes • Prepare for post-secondary plans

  3. ADMITTED, DEFERRED OR WAITLISTED? • Admitted and attending: ENROLL • Send enrollmentdeposit toONEschool • Admitted, not attending: WITHDRAW • Send Email to Admissions to withdraw application (ED must withdraw all apps) • Deferred: Provide NEW Information • (Send transcript, test scores, awards, honors) • Waitlisted: Respond Immediately to waitlist offer. ENROLL at another school until you are removed • INQUIRE about housing and scholarships

  4. COLLEGE ACCEPTANCES • Must accept admission offer by May 1st • You can make an enrollment deposit at only one school • You can make multiple housing deposits (refundable) • Accepted but NOT Attending? Email the college • Inform College Center of Acceptance and Denial

  5. 7th Semester Transcripts Should I send them? • Send only if Requested by College (not U of I) • Send if Deferred, Under Review or Common app (MYR) • Sign Up in Counselor’s Office by Jan. 22nd • Grades only? No transcript? Use Infinite Campus • Will be sent last week of January

  6. NO APPLICATIONS?What’s stopping you? • Money? Apply, then decide. • Undocumented? No problem. • Uncertain? Apply somewhere. • Military or ROTC? Know the difference. • Apprenticeship or Job? Have a back-up plan. • GAP Year? Apply and request.

  7. What is a Scholarship? • A scholarship is an award of financial aid for a student to further his education. • Criteria usually reflects the values and purposes of the donor • Scholarship money is not repaid.

  8. SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION • Money doesn’t come easily. You must work for it. • Seek help with essays • Local Scholarships available beginning in January-April. Check College Corner, Naviance and hallway postings • Inform LT: Provide copies of all official letters of offering you scholarship awards, even if you will not attend/accept. If you receive a scholarship to a college you will attend, your name is printed in Senior Honors and Graduation programs • Class of 2015 offered over $35 million • Awards/scholarships may be kept secret until recognized at Senior Honors Assembly in May. You must attend to receive scholarship.

  9. Types of Scholarships • Merit-basedacademic, athletic, artistic, community service, talent • Need-based FAFSA or CSS profile • Student-Specificgender, ethnicity • Career Specific Education, Nursing • CollegeSpecific –offered only by that institution

Scholarship Document Request Form • Complete the Scholarship Document Request Form • Pink form in College Center or Counseling Office • Fill-in form in Document library in Naviance • Turn in request to Secretary in Counseling Office • Pick up from Counseling Office • Use Infinite Campus transcripts unless an “Official” is required • Turn in BEFORE due date i

SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINES Student-Managed App College Center Managed App Must be turned in no later than 8:00 am on date stated Will be marked “late” Don’t wait until the due date to turn it in • Postmark=Must be mailed by that date • Received=must be received by that date • 10 school days for official transcript requests/recs • If scholarship needs nothing from us—you email/mail it to donor

LT SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION • What Is It? • Where Is It? • When Can I Find It? • When Is It Due? • What Do I Need To Complete It? • One application for several scholarships (Booster etc) • Available online @ LTHS website only • Feb.19th – March 17th • Must be completed online, printed, and turned in to College Center no later than 8:00 am on March 17th • You must have filed your FAFSA for need-based $$$$ and supply us with your EFC.

FINANCIAL AID • FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) • Available Online (www.fafsa.gov) • Apply for an FSA ID TODAY (www.fafsa.ed.gov) • Preferred filing date: January 1 to March 1 (Check with individual colleges) • Waiting can cost you money! • Every student should apply regardless of income. • List an Illinois school on the FAFSA for MAP • List all colleges to which you are applying

  16. FAFSA 1-2-3Free Application for Federal Student Aid 1: Assemble forms: tax returns, social security numbers, driver’s license, alien registration card. 2: Complete FAFSA online! 3: Review Student Aid Report (SAR). It is emailed to you. Proof that FAFSA was received. Keep and Revise.

EFC = Expected Family Contribution • EFC is the amount of money your family is expected to contribute to your education • The EFC appears on the Student Aid Report (SAR) • The EFC is a calculation made by the govt. that considers income, number of family members, value of assets, enrollment status and other factors.

  18. How do Colleges Use These Numbers to Award Money? • Cost of Attendance (COA) $25,000 (includes tuition, fees, room and board, transportation, books) • Expected Family Contrib. (Determines family payment) -$5,000 • Demonstrated Need$20,000
