  2. Theme Passage 2 Cor 3 5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God, 6 who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

  3. Ministry-while there are many kinds of ministry, all of them involve representing God by the giving of something of value to another- love, truth, help, hope, wisdom, service, sustenance, grace…

  4. 1) Ministry Means that We Take on the Mission of Jesus- John 12 44 Then Jesus cried out and said, "He who believes in Me, believes not in Me but in Him who sent Me. 45 And he who sees Me sees Him who sent Me.

  5. 1) Ministry Means that We Take on the Mission of Jesus- John 12 46 I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness.

  6. The people of God are to be a ministering people, not merely a people different from the world.

  7. Jesus’ drive behind developing His disciples was so that they would take on His mission to spread the message of salvation and life around the world.

  8. Matt 20 26 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever wants to be first must be your slave-- NIV

  9. Matt 20 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." NIV

  10. “Too often our Christianity loses significance because we have adjusted our focus to seek satisfaction for ourselves first. If our Christianity is to take on meaning, our focus needs to be like Jesus’, on sharing with the world that a relationship with God is possible & desirable.”

  12. Matt 14 15 As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, "This is a remote place, and it's already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.“ NIV

  13. Matt 14 16 Jesus replied, "They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat."NIV

  14. 1) Ministry Means that We Take on the Mission of Jesus- John 12 Do I believe that my life is an extension of the mission of Jesus Christ? Where is my focus in my walk with God– on personal satisfaction & comfort or upon fulfilling the mission of Christ?

  15. 2) Ministry Means that we Connect with the Mission of Jesus- Matt 28 16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had appointed for them. 17 When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted.

  16. 2) Ministry Means that we Connect with the Mission of Jesus- Matt 28 18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples…

  17. Jesus’ intention for His people is that they would take personal responsibility for His mission, to make it their life purpose like He did.

  18. John 20 21 Again Jesus said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you."

  20. Connecting… a) In ministry we emotionally connect to Jesus’ mission- we want His mission to succeed

  21. Connecting… b) In ministry we spiritually connect to Jesus’ mission- we believe the mission should succeed

  22. Connecting… c) In ministry we physically connect to Jesus’ mission- we work to make sure that the mission does succeed.

  23. 2) Ministry Means that we Connect with the Mission of Jesus- Matt 28 Am I connected to Jesus’ mission and active in making it come to pass?
