Situation One “Three books.” Liesel spoke softly and she looked at the backs of the men. (119)

Situation Two “Papa.” “Don’t talk.” The party, she whispered. Papa stopped. He fought off the urge to open the door and look up the street. “They’re checking basements to make shelters”(342).

Situation Three “Take a handful.” “I’m not sure this is a good idea.” “Your papa did.” “If we’re fast, we won’t get caught.” “So move it, Saumensch” (440).
