  3. PREP Overview: • The national Preparedness for Response Exercise Program was developed to establish a workable exercise program for spill response preparedness. • Currently only address the exercise requirements for OIL POLLUTION response. • USCG is considering HAZSUB exercise requiremnts.

  4. Government-Initiated Unannounced Exercise (GIUE) • SOHV required to conduct 1 GIUE per quarter = 4 per year. • Conducted at 154 facilities and tank vessels. • Evaluates notification and equipment deployment for average most probable discharge scenarios. • 33CFR 154 and 155.

  5. Things to remember: • Operational Impact will be minimized during these exercises. • Only applies to barges carrying bulk oil as cargo. • Exercise will not exceed 4 hours. • USCG is coordinating with EPA and State Officials to avoid duplication. • After you successfully complete a GIUE you are not required to conduct another for 3 years.
