2. ABOUT US Institute of Road Traffic Education (IRTE) is a research based not-for-profit organisation operating since 1991. For over two decades, IRTE has been dedicatedly working in partnership with Corporates, Government and the regulatory bodies towards scientifically improving all domains of traffic management in which safety is an inherent virtue.

3. Road Safety Measures in India: Today Government is encouraging people to celebrate ‘road safety week’ annually. This campaign was initiated by the ISS India HSE (Health Safety and Environment) to make people aware of the road safety measures in India. Many charitable organisations, NGO (non-government organizations) and private firms across the country organise and provide logistic support to the Road Safety Week Campaign. People are motivated and educated on traffic awareness. Several educational banners, safety posters, pocket guides, leaflets and safety films are distributed to the road travellers.

4. Traffic Awareness: Having a sound knowledge about road safety measures is necessary for both – a person sitting behind the wheel or a pedestrian. Traffic signs apart from giving instructions at the major crossroads also inform the riders/pedestrians about the road conditions ahead. They guide/warn road travellers and ensure the proper functioning of the road traffic.  Ignoring these road signs may lead to loss of life as well as property. It is a mandate to sit through an oral as well as a written examination about the traffic symbols and road signs before a driving license in India.
