  1. ROAD SAFETY Seminar on sustainable road safety management A 5 day seminar including workshops and trainings

  2. Duration: 5 days from 10.00- 17.00 1. Target group: Road Safety Professionals (Management, Project Leaders Coordinators, Experts) and Road Safety Volunteers 2. Way of working: The participants write their own road safety action plan during the seminar course/training. 3. Result: Every participant has made a personal road safety action plan. At the end of the course their plan for the next actions is ready so they can start to refine the approach till now or to start with all new actions. GLOBAL OUTLINE

  3. DOMAINS & TOPICS 4.Topics 1. General issues of importance for road safety; 2. Examples of successful road safety actions/case studies; 3. Change strategy in the area of road safety: how to convince sponsors, participants, authorities etc., of the importance of a systematic approach of road safety; 4. How to set up/organize and carry out a successful project with volunteers and professionals on a local, regional or national level. These 4 domains will be supported by a syllabus with the most relevant info and practical exercises for the participants.

  4. Titel Day 1 : Sustainable Safety The facts and how to organize it… 1. The participants learn about what is known about the facts in the domain of traffic safety; 2. The participants learn to make their own road safety action plan; 3. The participants exchange their knowledge and experience with each other

Day 1 : Sustainable Safety The facts and how to organize it… Part 1 Vision Zero, Sustainable Safety, RS aspects of Mobility and Transport, Multidisciplinary approach, Yearly costs of RS ( Societal and Economical) Statistics and subjective description of RS. RS System and definition of RS problem. Part 2 Introduction to the road safety action plan: Road Safety Management is about teambuilding (process, structure, qualities, results)

  6. Day 1 : Sustainable Safety The facts and how to organize it… Part 3 State of the art of the participants at this moment: strength and weakness analysis of their work. Discussion in small groups and first global conclusions. What is working now and what should work better in the future. Every participant makes a top 3 list of own priorities in their action plan. Part 4 Case of one successful approach on the local level. What are the key factors for success?

Day 2 : Strategy of Road Safety The facts and the practice 1 The participants learn to make their own plan based on local circumstances and influenced by facts and good examples from elsewhere; 2 The participants experience the importance of setting up well functioning networks of people and organizations; 3 The participants experience that you can learn from good examples.

  8. Day 2 : Strategy of Road Safety The facts and the practice Part 1 What did we learn the first day? What are remaining issues? What about the top three priorities? Part 2 Research and statistics as background for decision makers and RS work; Road Safety Audit and ISO.

  9. Day 2 : Strategy of Road Safety The facts and the practice Part 3 Networking: the art of being there…. How to organize your networks around traffic safety decision makers in such a way that you are successful? Case studies of successful networks…. International and national networks, funding possibilities….. Part 4 Good practices of pedestrian and cyclist safety Good practices of safety of young peoples and elderly ones… Good practices of Powered Two Wheelers…………….. What about your road safety action plan and the top three priorities?

  10. Day 3 : Strategies and Tactics to influence Behavior… 1. Participants experience that in order to make their own strategy and action plans general information has to be adapted to local circumstances.. 2. The end user of road safety is the client!!! 3. Participants experience the importance of working together between professionals and volunteers.

Day 3 : Strategies and Tactics to influence Behavior… • Part 1 • Role of the media………. • Case studies: possibilities and good practices of awareness campaigns • Part 2 • Road Safety Professionals and Road Safety Volunteers: their roles and contribution; • Road safety means: • shared responsibility • citizens involvement • (report system)

Day 3 : Strategies and Tactics to influence Behavior… The organization, role, function and motivation; Models of action of volunteers work; National, regional and local level activities; Coordination, motivation and managing volunteers; Peer to peer work of volunteers; Specific domains of volunteers work.

Day 3 : Strategies and Tactics to influence Behavior… Part 3 Good practices of volunteers networks; volunteers programs) Part 4 How to influence behavior of road users……… .A model for change of behavior…………… What competences do you need yourself to organize change? Main problems and most important target groups

Day 4 : Decade of Action for Road Safety. 2011-2020 (aim, pillars) Part 1 Overview pillars and measures and best practices (5E’s) Part 2 Capacity Building and Road Safety Plans/Programs in progress Part 3 Black spots. Self-explaining and forgiving road environment. Traffic Calming. Part 4 Traffic Education, Campaigns, Police Enforcement

  15. Day 5 : Reflection and Local Flavors Part 1 Issues on request of participants Part 2 Presentation of the road safety action plans to each other Part 3 Excursion to be planned by local/regional/national authorities Part 4 Evaluation of the Course, Closure and Follow up

Seminar Organization The seminar is organized and given by: Joop Goos(MSc) owner of Goos Consultancy and Rudolph Bolsius(MSc) owner of RGB Consultancy Both are for decades experienced in the world of traffic safety on international national and local level. In networks with decision makers, researchers, governments, professionals and volunteers.

Seminar Finances For PRI Members: This 5 day seminar is offered for a fixed price of 8000 Euro (excluding VAT, travel costs of the seminar leaders and costs of training facilities) For non-members of PRI: This 5 day seminar is offered for a fixed price of 12000 Euro (excluding VAT, travel costs of the seminar leaders and costs for training facilities) The maximum number of participants is 20-25
