History of CNYSPCA Established in Syracuse in 1891 Originally founded to protect working animals, especially the mules and horses pulling barges on the Erie Canal Now they primarily focus on the protection of domesticated pets CNYSPCA is not affiliated with or funded by the ASPCA Not for profit charitable establishment

  3. CNYSPCA’s Mission: This organization is devoted to making our community a kinder and safer place for the animals who share it with us.

  4. Programs & Services SPCA Provides: Animal Cruelty Investigation- All animals are under the Cruelty Laws that are imposed by the SPCA. This corporation has trained SPCA investigators to inspect different calls for animal abuse, neglect, and abandonment. Public Education Program- Available to schools, youths, and community groups by providing direction on the proper care and treatment of animals. Low Income Spay, Neuter & Vaccine Program- Low rates are available for certain individuals who are considered low income (Medicaid, SSI, HEAP, or other Public Assistance)

  5. Continued.. Food Pantry- There is a large food pantry that holds a variety of food for many different domesticated pets. Individuals who are in need of help are allowed to come once a month to obtain food for their pet(s). Adoption- The Adoption process is careful and makes sure that the SPCA gives the animals to the right families who will give them a loving a safe environment to live.

  6. Social Theory Connected to SPCA: Functionalism- This theory is based off of agreement and order which leads to a society filled with social stability. The SPCA is working together with the community so that they can educate them on how to promote kindness to animals through their programs and services. While, the community works with the SPCA by assisting them with many donations to keep the organization running. Therefore by working together it creates solidarity within the community.
