  3. What is a credit? • A credit is the value that is earned when you PASS a class. • You earn .5 credits per class WHEN you pass. • You need to earn an A, B, C, or D for it to be considered passing. • Passing in an SRG class is a 1.5 or higher.

  4. What is GPA (Grade Point Average)? • Each grade that you earn is worth a numerical value. • A = 4.0 • B = 3.0 • C = 2.0 • D = 1.0 • F = 0.0 • Grade Point Average (GPA) is the average of the grades you have earned.

  5. Why does GPA matter? • Colleges and employers will look at your GPA to understand your skill and effort levels during your time at Roosevelt.

  6. What is a transcript? • A transcript is an official record of the classes you took and the grades you received in high school. • It also shows your attendance, GPA, and class rank.

Graduation Requirements Total Credits for High Graduation Total Credits for College Admissions English = 4.0 Social Science = 3.0-4.0 Math = 3.0-4.0 Science = 3.0-4.0 Fine Arts = 1.0 PE = 1.0 Elective = 7.0 World Language = 2.0 (Only needed for 4 year college) Total Credits Needed = 24.5  • English = 4.0 • Social Science = 3.0 • Math = 3.0 • Science = 3.0 • Fine Arts = 1.5 • PE (CPR) = 1.0 • Elective = 7.5 • 21st Century Skills • Total Credits Needed = 23

Important notes about graduation requirements… • You cannot JUST earn 23 credits and graduate. • You need to pass as many core classes in the subject areas that were shown. • For example, if a senior has 23 credits but did not earn enough English credits (they earned 3.0 but needed 4.0)…then that student is NOT ready to graduate.

  10. 21st Century Skills • 21st century skills are required to graduate.  • Health Literacy • Financial Literacy • Employability • Technology • Will be completed by the Future Ready course.

  11. Common Questions • What happens if I fail a class? • If you fail a core class (English, math, science, history) you will need to retake the class. • If you fail an elective or fine arts class (Intro to Art, Spanish, Woodworking), you may not have to retake that specific class BUT you still need to earn the required credits (7.5 electives, 1.5 fine arts). • Can a student graduate with 24 credits and no PE? • No, you cannot. • What if I have met all of my graduation requirements as a Junior? • You may be eligible to graduate early. Please see your counselor if you have questions.

  12. English 4 credits  • 9th grade-English I (required) and Power English • 10th grade-English II (required) and English II Extension • 11th grade-English III or AP Language and Composition • 12th grade- a combination of credits can be used to complete your last 1.0 credit of English

Social Science: 3 credits • 9th grade-20th Century World History • 10th grade- AP Human Geography (elective, not required) • 11th grade-US History or AP US History • 12th grade-Government or AP Government and Economics or AP Macroeconomics • Sociology, Psychology, America in 60's, AP Human Geography, Current Issues, and AP Psychology do not satisfy social science graduation requirements but can be taken for ELECTIVE credit.

Science: 3 credits • 9th grade-Earth Science, Biology, Conceptual Physics, Accelerated Biology/Chemistry • 10th grade- Earth Science, Biology, Conceptual Physics, Chemistry, Environmental Science • 11th grade-Earth Science, Conceptual Physics, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology, Biotechnology, Forensic Science, AP Environmental Science, AP Chemistry, AP Physics, or AP Biology • 12th grade-Environmental Science, Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology, Biotechnology, Forensic Science, AP Environmental Science, AP Chemistry, or AP Biology College bound students need a minimum of 2 lab science classes: Biology, Chemistry, and/or Physics

Math: 3 credits • 9th grade-Algebra I, Geometry • 10th grade-Geometry, Algebra II • 11th grade-Algebra II, OR Intro to Stats(fall only) Intro to Trig (spring only), Pre-Calc, AP Statistics  • 12th grade-AP Statistics, Intro to Stats, Intro to Trig, College Pre-Calculus, or AP Calculus AB • Math placement is determined by successfully passing the prior year’s math class

  16. Physical Education: 1 semester per year • High Intensity • Team Games and Sports • Aquatics • Total Body Fitness • Fitness Walking • Graduation requirement:  1.0 credit • State law:  Students must take PE every year • CPR is required for graduation and is taught within the PE curriculum, free of charge
