  1. CHAPTER 11SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL ANA MARIA MEJIA

  2. INTRO.! INTRO.! The sopranos seem to be a strange appealing to high-end critics an popular audience alive. The sopranos has taken the family theme of "the godfather and split in 2"They poses some stubbornly anomalous that invite philosophical reflectionPreceding paradox is not unique to the sopranos. Its an instance of a broader paradox that is sometimes called "sympathy for the devil"Tony soprano=specimen of the devil. Many crimes are made by tony soprano.

  3. Tony is the Head of a new jersey crime family that traffics in drugs, prostitution, exertion, usury, money laundering, murder, bribery, theft, suborning witnesses and pornography and other.Tony contributed to the corruption of policemen, assemblymen, clergymen unions and various business, large and smallHe's a gangsterTireless philanderer and adultererHe is dishonest to  his family, friends, lovers, enemies. We would give a wide breath if ever he came near us, or our neighborhood. If he would die in a gang war, we would not shed a tear, and if we knew he was imprisoned and that they threw away the key people would cheer. If tony soprano were an inhabitant we would act with fear.

  4. IT WAS FASINATION We feel something toward tony, something strong but its not sympathy, instead it is fascinationHe is not an ordinary family man, his business in the world full of violence and forbidden desire which he rules, often with great brutality. There is a disconnection between his family life and his family life and professional life its nothing short of staggering. His family seems absolutely contemporary and conventional. His two life styles clash

  5. He and his "cronies" si planning murders, robberies and scams.Tony soprano is an oxymoron: ruthless mafia with a spot in his heart for ducksHe has a psychiatric treatment, he puts hypocrisy and misdescrptionHe is comparing what he says on what actually is happening.Fascinating character he takes us by surpriseThere are also more characters in denial but they are not as tony

  6. WISH FULFILLMENT • To explain the pro-attitude we bear toward tony and how we argue the way he fulfills our darkest wishesHe has Rabelaisian in self-control, he eats, fucks, drinks, and smokes when he pleases.Vengeance is his and he meets out his own version of justice unconstrained by anyone. He seems to be able to get away with the worst crimes and misdemeanorHe represents fantasies. There are reasons 4 this is to be a piece with our objection to the fascinationHypothesis: many characters in the world of the sopranos who behave as wantonly as tony does. If not more so, but we do not regard them

  7. People hate Richie because he beats up his pregnant girlfriends Tracee.Ralph is a clear cut image as tony and the dark forces of a psychiatrist. Our pro attitude towards tony cannot be explained simply on the grounds of aggressiveness

  8. Reasons to relate with Tony Soprano's attitude: Because Tony gets everything he wants done, either the hard way or the good way. (Wish Fulfillment) The way that Tony gets the job done gives the connection that he can do whatever he sets his mind to. (Wish Fulfillment) Because he is morally correct, relatively, in the fictional world of the Sopranos, since he is always worried about the kids' lives, how they grow up, how his wife lives her life, and how his family does not get involved in the mob business. (Identification)

  9. The other characters from The Sopranos are not at all morally correct, since they do not maintain a family correctly. For example Big Pussy, does not maintain the family as secure and as good as Tony does, and this proves that Tony has more morals than the other characters, relatively. Even the priest has less morals, since he is acting like a hypocrite towards the church, by staying in Carmella's house too much. (Identification) Because he is a character which suffers many things that normal people suffer too, like depression, marriage, money, plus he is in the mob business. So this tells us he is rough on the outside, but soft on the inside.(Identification) Because even though he steals and kills for his work, he still lies in order to protect. That may be considered morally right, thus we can create a connection, or a pro-attitude towards his feelings of his life. (A Question Remains)

  10. This pro-attitude, or alliance we can achieve with Tony Soprano can change the way we see the show The Sopranos, since you are thinking like Tony, protecting the family while getting "work" done. (A Question Remains)
