Atoms

Atoms. Protons, Neutrons & Electrons. Protons are positively charged particles in the nucleus. The number of protons decides what kind of element an atom is. Neutrons. Neutrons are in the nucleus with protons. They are the heaviest particle in an atom. They have no charge. Electrons.

  1. Atoms

  2. Protons, Neutrons & Electrons • Protons are positively charged particles in the nucleus. The number of protons decides what kind of element an atom is.

  3. Neutrons • Neutrons are in the nucleus with protons. They are the heaviest particle in an atom. They have no charge.

  4. Electrons • Electrons go around the nucleus. They are constantly moving and make a cloud around the nucleus. They are negatively charged particles.

  5. Cool facts: Two atoms can share electrons. This is called a covalent bond. Atoms can also give away and receive electrons to form Ionic bonds. We call bonded atoms molecules and compounds.
