    1. Intake/Triage Unit 2007 – 2008 VS 2008 – 2009

    3. Initially we had stated and had the belief that we are and were more busy during the winter months, however based on the data there are some difference, yet it is not a significant difference. Throughout this summer we have had consistent census and have continued to admit new clients that have not been previously admitted. 5. We have continue to attempt to outreach to the Navajo Nation for coordination of services. We regularly contact NN when clients enter the unit and are enrolled there. We have also recently started to coach staff on differentiating various indigenous tribes. We have continue to attempt to outreach to the Navajo Nation for coordination of services. 7. We continue to meet with shelter services, FMC, PD as needed. We have open lines of communication with each agency. Throughout this last year we started pickups at FSS and North Country. We also assigned a TGC staff member to work at the shelter during the winter months for ease in transition and accessing care. PVRMC and PVBH are not formal referral sources, however we receive clients from them due to them being part of the NARBHA region. We continue to meet with shelter services, FMC, PD as needed. 8. This should say Northland Family Help Center Woman’s World is a treatment center in Cottonwood through VVGC for women with co-occurring disorders. Ellen has access to the NQMA (I think that is what it is) for comparisons on our stats of getting people into treatment. We continue to work hard to transition clients directly to residential treatment. We have found that this continues to be a significant challenge for ITU clients due to the lack of transitional housing, the difficultly in transitioning clients immediately into treatment, and the change in lifestyle for many of our clients. Many of the chronically homeless clients that we work with have a difficult time adjusting to a new social network, structure, and accountability. This should say Northland Family Help Center Woman’s World is a treatment center in Cottonwood through VVGC for women with co-occurring disorders. 10. The ITU has been instrumental in clients receiving ongoing care and being able to access a continuum of care. The unit has assisted clients in accessing services outside of the Flagstaff area for long term treatment that meets their cultural needs and transitioning clients through the continuum of care that is available at The Guidance Center. Throughout the winter months, the unit treated many clients with lower body temperatures and health problems that were exacerbated by the elements. It is evident that the ITU has been successful in providing an opportunity for clients to embrace a lifestyle of recovery.

    11. The establishment and operation of the Intake Triage Unit at the Guidance Center for the initial detoxification treatment and care of publicly intoxicated persons provides an important charitable and valuable public benefit to the Flagstaff Community. Flagstaff Medical Center reports less time is spent in the Emergency Department by individuals. Law enforcement and Guardian now have another entry point for individuals in need of services. Community members are able to access a full continuum of behavioral health services. Community Benefits and Considerations

    12. Community Involvement Prior to the establishment of the Intake Triage Unit, representatives from numerous stakeholders in the community met and expressed the need for a detoxification facility. Stakeholders continue to meet regularly to discuss benefits and improvements in the operation of the ITU. The current stakeholders include The Guidance Center, Flagstaff Medical Center, Flagstaff Shelter Services, NAU Police, Guardian Medical Transport, Catholic Charities PATH Program, and Flagstaff Police Department. Regular meetings have been replaced by e-mail and phone contacts.

    13. The Guidance Center also secured a grant from the Flagstaff Community Foundation; the funds from this grant have been used to provide hats, sweat suits and additional warm clothing items that are necessary for individuals to survive throughout the cold winter months. It has been the practice and the belief of The Guidance Center that the ITU is a community unit. The Guidance Center will continually foster and promote community involvement.

    17. Conclusion Through persistence and community collaboration, Flagstaff is able to provide safe and comprehensive detoxification services to vulnerable members of our community. ITU will continue working closely with all community stakeholders. Coordination with Flagstaff Shelter Services has increased with the facility opening in October. The Guidance Center provided services at the shelter to continue to educate and promote Recovery.
