  3. Objective of Overall Project • Developing affordable, portable sensor system for water quality monitoring. • Developing affordable, portable sensor system for water quality monitoring. • A sensor is a substance or device which is sensitive to the change in it’s environment.

  6. Analyte Measurement Technique • Potentiometry   • A potentiometric sensor detects the change in the equilibrium potential of the electrode • Basic Principle- Nernst Equation

  7. Hybrid System • So, which technique is better………..? • Conductometry – if limit of interest is low (ppb) • Potentiometry – if limit of interest is relatively high (ppm) • Final instrument will be hybrid of the two.

Economics • Capital cost (instrument’s cost) is going to be in thousands instead of lakhs - For different parameters prevalent technology requires different instruments each costing lakhs of rupees. • Negligible cost of consumables - Unlike prevalent sophisticated instruments used for analysis at National/International bodies, The materials used are primarily cheap & replaceable polymers. • Significant decrease in cost per analysis.

  26. What Next after Sensing • The purification/treatment procedures for most of the pollutants are known; will be supplied with the instrument. • If not satisfied; the problem can be posted on our website and we will give the solution after consulting experts.

  27. Any thing else……? • Complementary to purification technologies. • Many times source is less or not contaminated at all. Also it may get contaminated only periodically; on-line analysis may save unnecessary expense on purification/treatment when water is already usable.
