  1. Sailing Industry Company & Event Advertising

  2. For the last forty years, advertising decisions have been pretty simple: how much can we justify spending with the sailing magazines and which ones? The Internet is changing the way business is being done and this includes marine industry business. Now some major marine companies are reporting that up to 70% of their sales leads are coming from the Internet. Have you changed your advertising mix yet, or are you missing out?

  3. ‘The Internet is now the preferred news source for the 18-34 age group and is spreading upwards.’ ..Carnegie institute Dec 2005 ‘Web Trounces Magazines as Preferred Information Source for special interest groups.’ …. Content Intelligence Group Aug 2001 ‘Online ads…are the fastest growing market segment.. expected to overtake radio, magazines in less than five years.’ ..industry consultant Frost & SullivanJan 2006

  4. Sailors have already voted with their mouses. Their sport rarely makes it to the mainstream news, so in the past, they found news in sailing magazines (with a 30-60-90 day delay). Now they receive the majority of their sailing news online, within minutes or hours. Advertisers having recognised this trend are now adding, or expanding, to online media as a major part of their advertising mix. So where to advertise?

  5. Sail-World.com is the most popular sailing news site in the world. At current rates it will have a giant 500,000 unique* visitors in 2006. In December alone there were more than 4 million page views. That makes it a big sailing magazine. (*a sailor who visits every day all year is still just one unique visitor.)

  6. Sail-World.com started in Australia but it now has sites in the USA, the UK, Europe, Asia and New Zealand and we are launching the African site soon.Sail-World has been racing focused. Now Sail-World’s Cruising Editor Nancy Knudsen, is delivering Cruising News for all sites. In 2006 our Cruising Newsletter will go to 20,000 sailors every week!

  7. With an audience of 500,000 across the year, Sail-World is a very effective advertising medium. ‘Instant reach’ and a giant audience. Sail-World’s advertisers use a variety of online methodsto attract the attention of potential customers.

  8. Advertising buttons: - Static, animated and Flash movies on all the Sail-World sites. As the most visible part of the Sail-World promotional activity, they provide significant brand awareness (and drive traffic to advertisers websites). Sail-World advertising buttons are on every page of the site. They rotate on the left and right hand side of the site.

  9. People are 12 times more likely to pay attention to a piece of editorial than they are to an advertisement.

  10. So, interesting press releases, with heavy news content, can deliver real results for Marine Advertisers. Online promotional campaigns, stories and images, can run on Sail-World Racing and Sail-World Cruising sites world-wide, but they must be sufficiently newsworthy.Look at the following examples…

  11. This interview with the Gill founder is interesting, newsworthy and delivers a powerful message.

  12. Mariner Boating is marketing Adventure Sailing … it knows how to make destinations desirable through editorial content.
