Merryhill Elementary School May’s / June’s Happenings 5th Grade • Here’s what we’re learning: • Reading (what stories?): • “Findle” • Pre-historic animal stories • Language Arts: • Different uses of commas • Punctuation • Math: • Length, perimeter, and area • Measurement • Ratio, probability, and percent • Science: • Plants and their adaptations • Social Studies: • The Young Republic • Spanish: • Foods • Meals • Review all previous sections • Music: • Musical theory (long/short sounds, soft/loud sounds, quarter, half, and whole notes) • Recorders • Technology: • Create Mother’s Day cards with Paintbrush or PowerPoint • Gather data and use a spreadsheet to budget for a fictional summer vacation • Upcoming Tests: • Spelling and Vocabulary tests every Friday • Reading/Language Arts: • Every Friday • Math: • May 6 • May 18 • Science/Social Studies: • May 16 - science • *Test dates are subject to change • Upcoming Events: • President’s Physical Fitness Run 5/6 • Teacher Appreciation Week 5/2-6 • Mother’s Day Breakfast 5/6 • Mother’s Day 5/8 • Science Fair 5/9-5/13 • Chick-Fil-A Night 5/19 • Elementary Field Day at Stovall Park – 5/20 • Kindergarten Graduation at Bob Duncan Community Center 5/31 at 7:00 p.m. • End of the year party 6/3 • Last day of school / report cards 6/3 • Reminders/Needs: • Memorial Day May 30 – School closed • Reading logs due 6/1 • Book fees installments are due 5/2 and 6/1 for the 2011-12 school year.
