  3. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF HRM? The purpose of HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT (HRM) in a business is to manage the WORKFORCE so that a business has enough suitable staff to carry out all necessary tasks in an EFFECTIVE and EFFICIENT way.

  4. WHAT ACTIVITIES ARE HRM RESPONSIBLE FOR? The main activities that are involved in the work by HRM staff are as follows. • STAFF RECRUITMENT • STAFF SELECTION • STAFF TRAINING • STAFF MOTIVATION AND RETENTION • COMPLIANCE WITH LEGISLATION

BENEFITS HRM BRING TO A BUSINESS If the HRM staff do their work well, the business will benefit as follows: • STAFF will be HAPPY at work and will be MOTIVATED to perform well, leading to BETTER CUSTOMER SERVICE and high levels of job satisfaction. • STAFF will STAY with the business for LONG PERIODS OF TIME, reducing the need to recruit new staff frequently • POSITIVE BUSINESS IMAGE (from high quality products and positive treatment of staff) • Increased use of the business by consumers (CONSUMER LOYALTY) • INCREASED PROFITS, BUDGETS OR DONATIONS (from consumer loyalty) • PREVENTION OF NEGATIVE INDUSTRIAL ACTION (where staff take action to negatively affect the business)
