  1. Pathos — They try to make clear the other options available in this article. Shared value would be if you were getting attacked you would want help to , so sending in ground troops would help get another ally. Another value would be if we needed help we would want to receive help when we needed it. To send in troops the emotion of retaliation would be grateful of us retaliating against the ISIS. The other point of view would be that we can retaliate against sending in troops so we can save our own troops lives and staying out of a war we do not need to be in. Ethos — This article was written to establish the downsides of sending in combat troops and how effective it would be as opposed to retaliating in different ways. The negatives far outweigh the positives in this situation. Iraq does not want us there, US soldiers do not feel it is necessary to send large amounts of troops over, and we cannot afford another war. Logos — It is made extremely clear by the writer, that his position on the ISIS situation is to not send troops in. He states several reasons why it would be more damaging than effective, and that we should give our current efforts a chance first. So in essence, retaliating to this movement is to be handled by the Iraqi government before others get involved. They have made it clear that they don't want us there, so we should let them handle it first and help only when they ask.

  2. Kairos — Retaliating at a time like this would not be the wisest decision. Mainly because it would not be only ISIS that we will be fighting. Other Islamic groups that are not part of ISIS would almost definitely attempt to harm US soldiers if they returned to the Middle East. Telos — Retaliating against the ISIS would be a huge challenge against the US because we have to go against other terrorist groups also while we are in the mid east. The writer made it clear it would be a bad decision to send ground troops because we will lose a lot of troops for a war we do not need to be apart of. The other side would to be retaliate against the Iraq government and not send in ground troops and let them fight there own war.
