    2. Background • Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 • Sex Discrimination Act 1976 • Sex Discrimination (Gender reassignment) Regs 1999 • Disability Discrimination Act 2005 • Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006 • Gender Equality promotion from April 2007

Healthcare Commission • To use assessments and other activities to promote action to reduce inequalities in people’s health, experience of healthcare and access to services through greater respect for human rights and diversity • An explicit focus on inequalities, human rights and diversity in assessments

    4. Healthcare Commission August 2006 ‘suspects the NHS of widespread non-compliance with legislation on race relations designed to promote equality’ • Race Equality Scheme • Annual employment statistics • Outcome of impact assessments undertaken
