  1. The Scientific Method • Problem : Question to be answered in the experiment, It must contain both manipulated and responding variables. • Hypothesis : If and then statement expressing what is the expected outcome of the experiment, must contain both manipulated and responding variables • Manipulated/Independent Variable : Variable that is being tested, changed on purpose. What is going to be different in the lab. • Responding/Dependent Variable : Variable that changes as the result of the changes made to the manipulated variable. Results, what you measure or observe at the end of the lab… • Controlled Variable : Variables that stay the same through the experiment, things that can't change so that you have a valid answer. • Variable : Factors that affect or can affect the experiment in any way possible.

  2. The Scientific Method • Qualitative : Observations that do not contain any numbers or measurements. • Quantitative : Observations that contain numbers. • Conclusion : Statements that answer your hypothesis. It needs to be supported with data and proper concepts should be applied to the explanation/s as of why the results are the way they are. • MSDS : Sheets that contain all the information needed about chemicals, from disposal to who do they react with and safety measures needed when handling them.
