  2. The Stamp Act • In 1765 Parliament passed another law in effort to raise money. • The Stamp Act placed a tax on almost all printed material in the colonies. • It taxed the colonist without their consent. • Parliament ignored the colonial tradition because of the taxes.

  3. Protesting the Stamp Act • Patrick Henry persuaded the burgesses to take action against the Stamp Act. • In Boston, Samuel Adams helped start an organization called the Sons of Liberty • Results of angry protesters burning rag figures representing unpopular tax collectors, raiding and destroying houses belonging to royal officials, and marching through streets

  4. The Stamp Act Congress • In Colonial cities people refused to use stamps and boycotted against them. • Due to loss of many businesses, British merchants begged Parliament to cancel the Stamp Act.

  5. The Act is Repealed • In March of 1766, Parliament gave in and repealed the Stamp Act. • After Celebrating the end of The Stamp Act, Parliament passed another act called The Declaratory Act. • The Declaratory Act stated that Parliament had the right to tax and make decisions for British colonies.
