  17. Used to I used to smoke, but now I’ve stoped. (NOT I was used to smoke…) That hall used to be a cinema. used + infinitive – za izražavanje prošlih navika I stanja koja su sada završena.

Na primjer: That is the house where we used to live. (but we don’t live there any longer) He used to smoke a lot. (but he doesn’t do so now) People used to think that the earth was flat. (but they don’t think so now)

  19. Used to Used to nema oblik za sadašnje vrijeme. Da bismo izrazili sadašnje navike ili stanja, obično koristimo Simple Present Tense. He smokes. (NOT He uses to smoke.) Upitni i odrični oblik ove konstrukcije je kao kod pravilnih glagola. Na primjer: Did you use to climb the old apple tree in the garden? Did he use to do it? He didn’t use to smoke as much as he does now. You didn’t use to make that mistake.

  20. Used to Obratite pažnju na priloge, kada se koriste sa used to-konstrukcijom, u zavisnosti od toga da li je stil više ili manje formalan, prilozi mogu stajati ispred ili iza used. I always used to be afraid of dogs. (informal) I used always to be afraid of dogs. (formal)

  21. The Simple Past Tense Prošlo vrijeme se gradi veoma jednostavno. Ovo glagolsko vrijeme gradimo dodavanjem nastavka –ed na glagol u infinitive: play – played open – opened rain – rained stay – stayed

  23. The Simple Past Tense Ovo važi za pravilne glagole. Međutim, postoje i nepravilni glagoli kod kojih oblici prošlog vremena imaju zasebnu formu (II kolona). Neki od njih su na primjer: be – was/were speak – spoke buy – bought understand – understood have – had do – did come – came sell – sold write – wrote put – put

  24. The Simple Past Tense

  25. The Simple Past Tense Simple Past Tense se koristi da izrazi radnju koja je u potpunosti završena u nekom momentu, ili tokom određenog perioda, u prošlosti: • Peter arrived at our house yesterday. • We lived at Bournemouth for six years. • I went to the cinema last night. • Peter broke a window last night. • I spent all my childhood in Scotland. • Regularly every summer, Janet fell in love.

  26. The Simple Past Tense Obično se koristi sa riječima i frazama koje su vremenski indikatori kao što su, npr. yesterday, last week, in 1956, last week (year, summer), a week ago, a month ago, a year ago, i sl. Simple Past se koristi u pričanju priča ili kada želimo da prepričamo nešto što se dogodilo: One day the Princess decided that she didn’t like staying at home all day, so she told her father that she wanted to get a job…

  27. Before vs. Ago ago – se koristi sa prošlim vremenom za “računanje unazad” od sadašnjosti – da kažemo kada se prije sadašnjosti nešto desilo: I saw John three months ago. We met a year ago. It happened forty years ago. We finished the report an hour ago. before – se koristi sa prošlim vremenom za “računanje unazad” od nekog momenta u prošlosti: I saw John before his birthday. We met before Christmas. It happened before the Second World War. We finished the report before the deadline.
