EWTCA – AN INNOVATIVE INSTRUMENT FOR THE INTERREGIONAL CO-OPERATION The East-West Transport Corridor Association (EWTCA) was established on the 29th June 2010 at the constitutive conference in Vilnius which attracted almost 100 participants from 14 countries: Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, France, Germany, Poland, Latvia, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Belarus, China and Lithuania. During the conference the significant result was obtained: the agreement on the establishment of the EWTC Association was signed by the representatives of 26 business, academic and administrative bodies from Lithuania, China, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Sweden, France, Denmark and Germany. The general mission of EWTC Association is to become a platform for interregional cooperation: promoting innovations, new technologies, business models, transportation management systems, market analysis of new logistics schemes, and development of business plans. THE MAIN FUNCTIONS OF EWTCA • to strengthen the co-operation between transportation, logistics companies, intermodal terminal operators, shippers and consignees, national, regional and domestic authorities, science and research institutions along the EWTC; • to develop the links and services between the EWTC and different Europe-Asia regions; • to initiate the simplification of procedures and documentation; • to initiate of removing of bottlenecks in the development of infrastructure and operations; • to initiate and promote implementation of common KPI’s and services standards along EWTC (with focus on green transport); • to promote co-operation between private and public sectors; • to disseminate best practices and modern logistics solutions; • to support IT networks development among EWTC partners; • to represent the associated EWTC partners in the European Commission and international transportation organizations, as well as in national and regional authority institutions. EWTCA consists of 7 business associations, 16 companies, 5 public administrative institutions, 2 universities. Altogether – approx. 2000 companies and institutions from 12 countries (Belarus, Denmark, Kazakhstan, China, Lithuania, Mongolia, France, Belgium (EIA), Russia, Ukraine, Sweden and Germany). Introduction and promotion of EWTCA in international Forums and events (1) • EWTCA presented at EXPO 2010 (the valuable dialogues with China International Freight Forwarders Association (CIFA) and China Communications & Transport Association - (CCTA)). • Business seminars in Klaipeda and Karlshamn, Sweden (8-9th November 2010) • 12-13th November 2010 EWTCA was presented at an international conference in Fort Lauderdale (USA). EWTCA SECRETARIAT IS INVOLVED IN RESEARCH PROJECTS   • BESTFACT (EC FP7) The main task is to execute scientific and apply research works in sphere of intermodal transport and logistics development and to promote and assist in co-operation between intermodal transport hubs and logistics centres both at national and transnational level. The objective of BESTFACT is to develop, disseminate and enhance the utilisation of best practices and innovations in freight logistics that contribute to meeting European transport policy objectives with regard to competitiveness and environmental impact. The BESTFACT consortium includes 18 partners made up of European research institutes, universities, international associations and industry partners. EWTCA Secretariat will have ability to disseminate European good practice (on development of intermodality) to Eastern Neighborhoud countries. Dr.Algirdas Šakalys

EWTCA SECRETARIAT IS INVOLVED IN RESEARCH PROJECTS   • EMAR (EC FP7) The objective of e-Maritime is to make maritime transport safer, more secure, more environmentally friendly and more competitive. For this, e-Maritime must ameliorate complexities that hinder networking of different stakeholders, help to increase automation of operational processes particularly compliance management and facilitate the streaming of synthesised information from disparate sources to assist decision making. Process model of eMar EMar project will assist simplifying and spreading up data exchange among port community, as well as – hinterland, and will support KIPIS project which is being developed by Klaipėda seaport Authority Dr.Algirdas Šakalys

EWTC ASSOCIATION ACTION PLAN 2012 TO ESTABLISH THEMATIC EWTCA WORKING GROUPS The groups should: - identify main problems and bottlenecks in functioning of the EWTC - propose measures to avoid and prevent obstacles in functioning of the EWTC - propose actual measures into agenda of the EWTCA activities • Working groups on freight operations along the EWTC • Working groups on customs, regulatory and administrative procedures along the EWTC • Working group on research and development along the EWTC • Working group on passengers transportation - ???
