What is Prison SMART? • A flexible stress management and rehabilitation program for inmates of and people working in criminal justice systems, offered by International Association For Human Values. • Serves • Inmates, Ex-inmates, Half-way Houses, Parole or Probation • Juvenile Justice Programs • Victims of Crime • Corrections Staff/Law Enforcement

Some common ProblemsEncountered by Inmates • Disturbed Sleep Patterns • Depression, anxiety and high level of stress • Problems with self-control • High incidences of violent Inter-personal conflict • Depression, anxiety and high level of stress causing inmates to indulge in destructive behavior • Violence due to Traumatic scars of the past • General apathy & lethargy

Prison SMART Contents • Sudarshan Kriya • Breathing techniques/ Pranayams • Gentle stretching / Yoga, Meditation • Practical life skills • Spread over 6-8 days, 18 hours Results: • Increased self esteem and peace of mind • Alternative to violent behavior • Normalized sleep patterns • Reduced anxiety, depression & trauma symptoms • Practical conflict resolution
