  2. “Addiction” • “Addiction” comes from the latin word “adducere” (pr ‘add you chair eh’) which means “to be enslaved.” • We are created to serve. • We either serve God, or something else

  3. Needs (Man’s answer) • Escape • Reality – Cannabis, LSD (Psychtropic) • Pain – Heroin, Barbiturates (Narcotics) • Alcohol (a bit of both) • Ecstasy – mind altering stimulant • Rewards • Nicotine (and the other drugs) • Work • Pornography

  5. A bit of Medicine • Dr Andrew Rees, BMBS, B. Policing. • Drugs have a direct effect • They also have an effect on the reward centre in the brain • Some activities – e.g. work i.e. “workaholism” and pornography also trigger the reward centre • Rats

Needs (God’s answer) • Escape • Repent, be baptised and receive the Holy Spirit • To the overcomer – the crown of life! • Reward • Mark 16:15:20 “Go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel ...” • Luke 4:18-19 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the Gospel to the poor; He hath sent me to heal the broken hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives and the recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised. To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.”

  9. Consequences (God’s answer) • Fruit of the Spirit • Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance • The fellowship of the Saints • Victorious, positive, joyful, faithful • Miracles in this life • Healing • Deliverance • Provision • Life Everlasting
