What are you trying to do with your students on a mobile device? • Consider these questions during the planning phase. • Personal mobile device or school wide mobile device? • How can the device be integrated into your current course curriculum? • Are you focusing on one curriculum area or teaching several disciplines using a mobile device? • When using mobile devices, pre-planning has to be one of the first steps in how one is going to use the device to educate students.

  6. Who’s in Charge of the Mobile Devices? • Are mobile devices an ITRT duty or Teacher duty? The answer is it’s a shared responsibility. The wonderful part about mobile devices is that they can be used and set-up by either an ITRT or Teacher. Teachers should be working or communicating with his or her ITRT about technology set-up for the mobile devices.

  7. Installation and Set Up of Mobile Devices • Who will be in charge of installing applications (apps) and other device software. Mobile device users can be allowed full rights or limited rights access (Teacher, Student and Administration rights) to a mobile device

  8. Security vs. Safety • Who will be responsible for setting restrictions protocols on the mobile device, if any? • How and where will the mobile devices be stored/synced or charged? • To send Home with students or not to send home

  9. Cost and Budgeting • Is your school/school system ready for the cost of mobile devices? • Individual School Budget or School System Technology Budget Estimated Cost of Mobile Devices

  10. School Use vs. Home UsePolicy, Policy and more Policy • What is your school/school system current policy on the student, teacher and even parent use of mobile devices? • Will students be taking the mobile devices home for educational use.

  11. Applications • Determine staff that will be given installations rights (apps, downloads, video, etc.) • Helpful Resources: Applications for Educators (Apple) • Apple Educational Vouchers (Payments) • Applications and Classroom Appropriateness

  12. eBooks • Kindles, iPads, iPods, Nooks, Xooms provides great resources for eBooks • Some eBooks are free, but some do cost money. • May require a Wi-Fi connection or direct syncing from a computer to upload eBooks to a mobile device

Teacher Training for Mobile Devices • With the use of mobile devices in schools, training is one of the major, if not the most important part aspects of implementing a successful program. • Training or information sharing, should be planned as early and often as possible, before any mobile devices even entering the building. • Parent Training Programs are also crucial to program success.

  15. “Flash or No-Flash” • Mobile devices like ipods and ipads don’t use Flash. • This could be an issue for teachers who have years of supportive websites for students and parents. • Apps are the alternative for using Flash enabled websites on Apple mobile devices.

  16. Classroom Management System and Mobile Devices • Classroom Management Systems can be a key element to the use and expansion of mobile device usage in your classroom or school.
