  2. Templates (1 of 3) A template is a common structure of a web site that most of your web pages use. Imagine that your site has 25 pages. If you need to make one small change, let's say adding a new link, you would need to go to each of those 25 pages and change it manually. But using a template you only need to change it in the template and all the pages get updated automatically. File >> New Document >> Blank Template • Immediately save file in Templates folder as xxx.dwt • Save template name as a recognizable file e.g. charity.dwt • Template is one folder within the site therefore all images and links will start with a ../

  3. Templates (2 of 3) You need to make parts of the template editable so that you can put in content and add information that is unique to parts of the site. The main content of the pages or a header on each page may keep changing so that may be made editable. Choose the location that you are making Insert >>Template Objects >>Editable Region • Name region appropriately • You will notice a light blue with the name of the editable region in your cursor's location.

  4. Templates (3 of 3) If your pages are already created and you want to apply the template to them Modify >> Template >> Apply Template to page Choose the correct Template When creating new pages File >> New Document >> Page From Template Choose the correct site and the correct template (if more than one exists) Upon saving your changes to the template you are asked if you would like to update the pages that are using the template. • If you choose yes, the pages will be updated even if they are not open. • Try using include files for anything that may be changed often
