Purpose of Fair • Each of you are here for one program, we will offer 18 programs in 2014 • You are here for a very short time and your days are full with class, reading and assignments and staying connected with those at home. • This is an opportunity to learn more about the 2014 programs • We will give a brief overview of the programs and then you will have the opportunity to spend some time discussing two of our thematic areas and the programs in each • We have just over one hour so lets get started. • We challenge you to think about your individual learning needs as well as the capacity building needs of our organization, partner organizations and networks of colleagues including fellow Coady graduates (the multiplier factor) Coady International Institute

Introduction • Coady offers education opportunities that create a supportive, yet challenging, space for learning; • Builds genuine and reciprocal learning relationships; encouraging reflective practice and creative expression; recognizing that everyone brings their own perspective; and challenging paradigms that promote inequality and inequity. • Support innovation by strengthening citizen-led organizations and other actors to develop and test best practices • Documentation, convenings, disseminating learning results • Work with other actors to help develop fair and equitable policies, systems, NGOs and governments Coady International Institute

  3. 2014 Diploma in Development Leadership July 21 – December 6 The program is organized into three sessions: • Session 1: Foundation course in leadership and community development, followed by theme-based Electives • Session 2: work in leadership, communications, and research methods, followed by Specializations • Session 3: more Electives, followed by a Cooperative Inquiry Coady International Institute

  4. Background for Presenter 1. Foundation Session in leadership, community development and transformative learning (like what we do now in first 4 weeks) Followed by courses in Citizen-Driven Asset-Based Development, Gender and Power, and Globalization Followed by Co op Inquiry (opportunity to learn a process for collective research and to investigate a topic of your choice in depth Followed by electives proposed in Skillbuilding for Effective Communications, Research Processes and Methods and Participatory Project Planning and Management Choose Theme: Accountable Democracies, Strengthening Local Economies or Building Community Resilience (content being produced) Continue Electives • Begin to Integrate Learning think about individual, organization and organization Choose Specialization: Partnerships 7 Multi-Stakeholder Relationships, Learning Organizations & Change, Facilitation & Training Approaches for Community Change or Research for Citizen-Led Change • Continue Electives in Community-Based Conflict Transformation & Peace, Community Economic Analysis and Community Health and Development, Food Security Express Theory of Change and Articulate Action Plan Coady International Institute

  6. Certificate Programs • Certificates take place in the Spring (April – June) and Fall (October) • Certificates are offered back-to-back, so participants can take multiple certificates, concentrating learning, time and travel investment. Coady International Institute

  8. 2014 Certificate Program Options • Take one 2 ½ week course • Take multiple courses to develop a more comprehensive, in-depth approach to leading change in one of our key thematic areas • Develop your own unique learning pathway by combining certificates in different thematic areas.
