PHILIPPINES Population (2010 est.): • 94 million (2010 est.) • 18.8 million families (HH) Poverty (2009): • 26.5%, 24.9 M • 20.9 %, 3.9 M HOUSING NEED • 5.7 M units (2016) • 3.7 M units (2010), 800k provided 3.8% of HH pop in informal settlements (714k) 5.65% of urban HH in informal settlements (74k)

  5. PHILIPPINES HOUSING SITUATIONfor Poor • Philippine government housing interventions for the bottom 30% of the population • Housing interventions: resettlement and security of tenure • But, barely 1% of the national budget allocated to housing • URBAN POOR PROGRAM – COMMUNITY MORTGAGE PROGRAM

COMMUNITY MORTGAGE PROGRAM • Government funded program – anti-poverty program • For the homeless and the underprivileged communities in urban and urbanizable areas • Financial assistance (loan) to purchase the land they are presently occupying LOAN DETAILS • 25 years to pay • 6% interest • Community loan but can be individualized titles

  15. COMMUNITY MORTGAGE PROGRAM(Highlights of accomplishment) • Since 1989, collection efficiency 76%, latest 12 months – 85% • Community members lives were transformed: - confident in their ways - pursue self-improvement – education, income generating activities, became health conscious

  16. SOME THOUGHTS ABOUT THE CMP • Poverty is not permanent • Provision of housing/shelter security aids poverty reduction • Poverty is everybody’s business (government, private sector and including the poor themselves) • “Alone we can accomplish little…together we can do so much!”
