  4. The basics: choose wisely . . . • - what do you really want to find? • (think specifically!!!)‏ • -choose keywords carefully, use as many as you need, and be specific in you use of keywords • (the more the better!)‏ • -if at first you don't succeed, try try again • (refine your search!)‏

  5. Some basic hints • - think more about sets of keywords and key phrases • -search exact phrases with quotes • -Google searches are not case-sensitive • -try typing in a question

AND, OR, NOT, ** !!!! • Those of you that have had an introduction to logic know about these logical operators. • AND – include only search results with both terms • OR – include search results that have one or the other term • NOT – disregard search results that containain this word or phrase • ** = represents that something is there but unknown, like you can't remember that guy's last name . . . you know that guy

Refine your search further:use special searches: • Google Book search – search the text within millions of books and read them on the internet! • Google Scholar – looking for a scholarly paper or literary criticism: try google scholar! • US Govt Google: searches only US government websites: find what you want!

More special searches • You can also simply enter certain things in the regular search engine that will give you specific results. • -What time is it in london: time London • -What's the weather tomorrow: weather Jackson MS • -How did the market do today: GOOG, NSDQ • -Where's and italian restaurant: italian restaurant 39211 • -What time is the Dark Knight: Movies 39211 • Area codes, patents, package tracking, and more

  9. Google Calculator and Dictionary • Don't have a calculator? Google: • simple: 32+42*2 (knows order of operations!)‏ • more complicated: sqrt , ^, etc – like your ti-84 • conversions with UNITS!!!! - 42 feet into meters • 1 calorie into joules, ETC!!! • Google dictionary / thesaurus • Define: blah

  10. Now here's the uber awesome thing • All of these searches are available in a variety of mediums (EVEN TEXT MESSAGING!!!!)‏ • all of the special searches, define, calculator, etc all work with texts!! and it's fast!!!

  12. Some specialized tasks • Filetype searches: • eg sliders season +4 : .torrent • searching only a specific site • eg great depression 2 : www.nyt.com • searching for a string in a url or title: • inurl: intitle:

  13. Special tasks cong • Google cache: google downloads the ENTIRE internet. Like every day just about, and they store this duplicate internet on servers for you to browse: • cache: www.oopsitsnotreallydeleted.com
