EARLY AUSTRALIAN HISTORY • The Aboriginals were the first to come to Australia, allready 40 000 years ago. • In 1606 the first European explored the coast of Australia, Willem Jansz, a Dutch sea captain. - New Holland • In 1770 the English Captain James Cook claimed the whole Australian region for Great Britain.

EARLY AUSTRALIAN HISTORY • On 26 January 1788 the first settlers arrived to the country now called Australia. • The new settlers were criminals who were sent away from England. • The criminals were treated like slaves with soldier guards and hard work • In 1852 the transportation of criminals to Australia was stopped. • Today Australia is a country like any other.
