  1. The „Energy in minds!“ - project in the energy region Weiz-Gleisdorf

  2. Energy region Weiz-Gleisdorf Weiz 17 communities 38 500 inhabitants Gleisdorf

  3. Project Partner in Austria Coordination of the energy region Weiz-Gleisdorf: W.E.I.Z. Research organisation: AEE INTEC Institut for sustainable technologies Utility: Feistritzwerke STEWEAG GmbH

  4. Research/Innovation • Information campaign • Public energy day • Innovative PV-systems • Bio-fuelled co-generation • High efficient retrofit • Establish wood-pellet infrastructure • Dissemination

  5. Demonstration • Innovativ solar thermal systems 80 solar-comby-systems in private households (10 – 20m²) 8 large-scale-systems f. resident.buildings or tourism.comp. • Innovative PV-systems 25 PV-Systems in private households with about 3 kWp • Improve district heating system 15 local district heating systems with about 150 kWhth, using woodchips or pellets • 1.000 Energy checks for buildings

  6. Demonstration High efficient retrofit 7000 m² residential-buildings 2500 m² public-buildings 1000 m² office-buildings • New low-energy buildings 4500 m² residential-buildings with passivhouse-standard • Communal energy management • Establish wood-pellet infrastructure 110 pellet boilers with 10 to 30 kW • Establish bio-fuel infrastructure

  7. DEM: for example: Plant oil-infrastructure • Two new fuel stations • Training course for garage owners and mechanics • Installation of an show room • Adaption of 30 vehicles to use plant oil

  8. Solar thermal systems Since June 2005 we installed 1331,9m² = 67 solar plants (one family houses)

  9. Pellet burners Since June 2005 we installed 886 kW= 56 pellet burners (one family houses)

  10. New buildings (one family houses) Since June 2005 we supported 2214 m² of new buildings.

  11. Retrofits - one family houses Since June 2005 we supported 2327m² of retrofits. Energy characteristic: 58 kWh/m²a Energy characteristic: 258 kWh/m²a

  12. Retrofits - one family houses Measurements Roof: 40 cm heat insulation Outer walls: 12 cm insulation Windows: U-value 1,1 W/m²K Heating system: solar thermal system 20m², wood boiler, storage tank 1000l

  13. Retrofits - one family houses Energy characteristic: 54 kWh/m²a Energy characteristic: 205 kWh/m²a

  14. PV-plants PV-Power: 4.700 Wp Low energy-building in massive construction < 12 kWh/m² heating PV-power: 3.040 Wp 16m² therm. Collector 12 kWh/m² heating

  15. District heating systems • 7 plants finished – 820 kWth

  16. Communal energy management Streetlights • in 4 communities, installationion of energy saving streetlights • - using new lamp-technology, reduction of operatingvoltage

  17. Online Energy-consulting

  18. Bio-fuel „plant oil“ • 8 vehicles adaped to bio fuel and in operation • 2 filling stations will be finished in July 2008 • 1 trasportable show-element to present the technology in the region

  19. Bio-fuel co-generation plants 1 plant running, 2 plants under construction - Electric Power: 8 kW – grid-connected - Thermal output: 18 kW – for heating office-building - Overall efficiency: aprox. 91%

  20. Monitoring for Energy in minds!° - projects

  21. Buildings monitoring

  22. Buildings

  23. Buildings Energy demand: Before: 157 kWh/m²a After: 24 kWh/m²a Energy costs: Before: 30.450 €/year After: 4.190 €/year

  24. Solar Thermal System and Pellet Boiler – Family Hausmann, Gleisdorf 19.5 m² 1,250 litres storage tank Domestic hot water is generated by a flat plate heat exchanger 10 kW pellet boiler for auxiliary heating

  25. Monitoring Solar Thermal System and Pellet Boiler – Family Hausmann, Gleisdorf House energy demand of 43 kWh/m²a for 150 m² living area The 19.5 m² solar thermal collector area was architectural integrated in the building’s south facade

  26. Solar Thermal System and pellet boiler – Family Wolf, Gleisdorf 15 m² 1,000 litres storage tank 10 kW pellet boiler for auxiliary heating
