  1. KX-TDA200/100 System(Version 2.0) Chapter 1.3 Basic Knowledge of Network • Panasonic Communications Co., Ltd. • Network Business Company • Edition 1.0 10 Sep., 2004

  2. Chapter 1.3 Basic Knowledge of Network 1. Basic Knowledge of Network 1.3 Wireless LAN (1) What is Wireless LAN ? (2) Comparison of Wireless LAN

  3. (1) What is Wireless LAN (1/7) Infrastructure mode An 802.11 networking framework in which devices communicate with each other by first going through an Access Point (AP). In infrastructure mode, wireless devices can communicate with each other or can communicate with a wired network. Most corporate wireless LANs operate in infrastructure mode. Access Point

  4. (1) What is Wireless LAN (2/7) Ad Hoc mode An 802.11 networking framework in which devices or stations communicate directly with each other, without the use of an access point (AP).

  5. (1) What is Wireless LAN (3/7) Point-to-Point mode This mode is used to transmit the data by the wireless between the networks of the long distance.

  6. Is your wireless networksecure ? (1) What is Wireless LAN (4/7) Access Point

  7. (1) What is Wireless LAN (5/7) ESS-ID (Extended Service Set Identifier) The access of a different group is excluded by identification ID of the group. The effect as the security measures is little, because recent OS displays the list of ESS-ID. MAC address filtering The MAC address is registered in the access point and the access not registered is refused. It takes a lot of time and labor to register the MAC address.

  8. (1) What is Wireless LAN (6/7) WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) Encryption key(24bits/104bits) + IV(Initialization Vector of 24bits). The same encryption key is used in the same group. Encryption strength is poor. WEP2 Encryption key(24bits/104bits) + IV(Initialization Vector of 128bits). WEP2 is improvement version of WEP. IV is longer than WEP. Encryption strength is better than WEP.

  9. (1) What is Wireless LAN (7/7) IEEE802.1x An individual encryption key is exchanged by using authentication protocol EAP. Security improves by using individual encryption key and changing it regularly. The efficiency of the operation management is improved by putting the RADIUS (Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service) server together.

  10. (2) Comparison of Wireless LAN (1/1) Medium Standard Max Speed(bps) Access Control Wireless Network Electric wave(2.4GHz) Infrared rays IEEE802.11 2M CSMA/CA Electric wave (2.4GHz) IEEE802.11b IEEE802.11g 11M 54M Electric wave (5GHz) IEEE802.11a
