The Diode

The Diode. Size 10 mm x 10 mm Thickness 380 µm Gain adjusted to 300 mV for minimum ionizing. Location in Phenix. Center of diode is 4” from beam center line - radial direction 12” along beam direction Much help from Phenix is setting this up. Detector Works.

  1. The Diode • Size 10 mm x 10 mm • Thickness 380 µm • Gain adjusted to 300 mV for minimum ionizing Howard Matis

  2. Location in Phenix • Center of diode is 4” from beam center line - radial direction • 12” along beam direction • Much help from Phenix is setting this up Howard Matis

  3. Detector Works • Top scope picture with no beam • Bottom with beam • Minimum ionizing near where expected Howard Matis

  4. Data • Rate • 2087 ZDC • 5.972 x 1012 ions (blue) • Need to correct for deadtime • Try different thresholds • Use saturation peak to normalize Howard Matis

  5. Deadtime Analysis • Notice small DC offsets per run • Adjust for slightly varying beam rate • Green curve threshold is just above noise • Noise is very small component so can neglect Howard Matis

  6. Normalized • Front edge might be dependent on threshold • MIP scale asumes particle hits normal to detector Preliminary Howard Matis

  7. To Do • Higher gain run started yesterday - need someone at BNL to record data • Would like to get tunneling through Phenix firewall working (Phenix needs it working too) • Should we do this in STAR? • Time is short to do this. Howard Matis
