  4. CHECKING OUT BOOKS • Maximum 2 books at a time • Up to 3 additional for school projects • Procedure • If I am not there, sign out in the Blue Book

  5. Blue Book Checkout • Fill in each box on the blue book sheet • Write the Hillhurst barcode in the last box • Neat printing 

  6. LOAN PERIODS • If item is more than a month overdue, no other books may be signed out • If need more time, ask to renew book

  7. Renewals and Holds Place Renewals andHolds at the Circulation Desk • Renew to get material for 2 more weeks • Renew up to 2 times if not on hold for someone else • Holds - for materials already checked out • You will be added to the Hold list • Kept for 1 week • After that Hold is cancelled

RETURNING BOOKS • Where: on the return cart • Pile books on cart neatly with like books together • When: • Weekly class library time • At other times • ask teacher if during class time • What if: book is lost, wet, dirty or damaged? • PLEASE let me know • If it can’t be fixed/found, replacement cost $$ must be paid

  9. LIBRARY ETIQUETTE • Inside voices in the library • Use a browser card • Ensure books on shelf are • At front of shelf • Spine out • Keep books clean and dry and happy • Return books on time • Put books neatly on return cart in piles of like books

HOW TO KEEP BOOKS HAPPY Hazards Strategy • Lunch and water bottle • Rain, snow • Small children and pets • Food • Pens, pencils, crayons, etc. • Keep library books in a plastic bag in backpack • Have a special place for library books that they can’t reach • Don’t eat and read at the same time • Keep book away from your drawing area

  11. USING e-LIBRARY • Access e-Library from school website http://www.cbe.ab.ca/b218 • Use it to - search for materials - view your checkouts 1 3 2

LIBRARY WEBSITE • Blog – for library news, book reviews, newly arrived books • Reading suggestions • Homework help • Wish list – to recommend books the library should get • Events Platinum Bone Award Bookmark Contest • Awarded every week • Winner is class with no overdues • Prize is to have Bone stuffie in your class for the week • Held in October to celebrate Canadian Library Month • Winning bookmarks are featured each month in the library Scholastic Book Fair You should read this book!
