  4. Embracing our future. . . • “Educate a child according to his way and when he is old, he will not depart from it. (Proverbs 22:6 )” • חֲנֹךְ לַנַּעַר, עַל-פִּי דַרְכּוֹ--    גַּם כִּי-יַזְקִין, לֹא-יָסוּר מִמֶּנָּה. • What excites you about using technology in the classroom? • What scares you about using technology in the classroom? • Do you think that we can avoid using technology in the classroom if it is the way of our students outside the classroom?

  5. The Pros • Empowers the students and the parents • Enhances communication with families • Meets students where they are at • Expands the boundaries of the classroom • Facilitates customized, multi-dimensional, multi-sensory learning

  6. The Cons • Technology substitutes virtual experiences for real ones • Undermines textual sills • Diminishes the role and authority of the teacher • Requires skill and time on the part of the teacher • There is some ethically questionable behaviors that can arise

  8. Wikispaces • Put All Classroom Resources In One Place • Parents and Students Can Interact with Postings • Great Way to Share Classroom Work and Information

  9. Social Networking Sites • Create a family/classroomsocial action group project • Communicate with parents by forming a Facebookgroup • Send a tweet after class about the day

  10. YouTube/Videos • Record, edit, and upload a classroom video project for parents to view

  11. Email/Blogs • Email is a great way to communicate with parents in newsletter format. • Blogs are a great way to communicate with families about the daily schedule and activities happening in the classroom or to encourage students and families to participate in a dialogue surrounding a topic of study.

  13. You Try It • Using one or more of the technologies we discussed, create a plan that will allow you to utilize them! Have fun! Work in groups if you would like!
