  2. “if I were” When we say or this is called the subjunctive mood… “if she were”

  3. The trick: Use the subjunctive mood if the sentence is a “what if” or “if only” sentence.

  4. If I were/ wasa magician, I’d turn life into a box of chocolates.

  5. If I were / wasa bird, I would fly far, far away…

  6. If it was / weresnowing in the northeast as much as the weather forecaster had predicted, I bet the kids there don’t have school today.

  7. If I was / were a rich man, I’d buy lots of yard gnomes. If this was / were Friday, we’d celebrate! I think buying gnomes was / were the right choice. If school was / were more interesting, I wouldn’t fall asleep. I think students would like school if there was / were more gnomes.
