  1. Homework Log

  2. 4/12/16 Lesson 10 – 3 Circles Algebra II

  3. Learning Objective • To graph circles

  4. Vocabulary Circle – Set of all points in a plane that are a distance r (radius) from a given point (center of the circle). Highlight Distance Formula on your paper! Cross off d = It gets confusing

  5. Equation of a circle Highlight Standard Form of an equation of a circle on your paper! Center (h, k) Radius r

  6. To write an equation of a circle Don’t write!! It’s already there. JUST READ • Determine where the center (h, k) is • Determine what the radius r is • If given center, and a point on the circle, find the distance between the center and the point • If given the endpoints of the diameter, find the distance of the diameter then divide by 2 • Plug into the standard form of an equation of a circle

  7. Write an equation of a circle with the given information 1. Center (-4, 3), radius 4 2. Center (5,-2), radius 8

  8. Write an equation of a circle with the given information 3. Center (-8, -3), point on the circle (-8, 8)

  9. Write an equation of a circle with the given information 4. Endpoints of a diameter (5, 0) & (-5, 0) Center =

  10. Write an equation of a circle with the given information 4. and

  11. To graph a circle JUST READ. It’s on your paper! • Get into standard form by completing the square • Determine where the center (h, k) is • Determine what the radius r is • Plot a point on the center • Count the radius r up, down, left, right from the center • Graph a circle using those four points • OR graph by translation of parent graph

  12. r = 3

  13. Find the center & radius of the circle & graph 1. Center: (0, 0) Radius: 4

  14. Find the center & radius of the circle & graph 2. Center: (-3, 2) Radius: 2

  15. TYPO ON THE NOTES!! #3 should have “3 units down and 5 units right” Write it down! #4 CROSS OFF “3 units down and 5 units right”

  16. Find the center & radius of the circle & graph 3. Translate 3 units down & 5 units right Before Center: (5, -3) Radius: 2 After

  17. Find the center & radius of the circle & graph 4. Center: (0, -3) Radius: 4

  18. Find the center & radius of the circle & graph 5. 4 Center: (3, -2) Radius:

  19. Find the center & radius of the circle & graph 9 6. 9 16 Center: (-1, -3) Radius:
