  1. Jesus on “Hell” Luke 16:19-31

  2. Jesus Speaks • Jesus on Faith - 42 times in 38 verses. • Jesus on Love - 90 times in 65 verses. • Jesus on Hell - 70 times in 58 verses.

  3. Jesus on Hell (sample) Do not fear those who can kill only the body…(Luke 12:4-7), Better to lose a limb than to be cast into hell. (Matthew 5:22) He spoke of a “fiery furnace” (Matthew 13:42), and “weeping and gnashing teeth” (Luke 13:28), and “outer darkness” (Matthew 25:30), and “their worm [that] does not die” (Mark 9:48), and “eternal punishment” (Matthew 25:46), and “unquenchable fire” (Mark 9:43), and being “cut in pieces” (Matthew 24:51)

  4. What was Jesus driving at? The trajectory of what you love in this life matters for eternity!

  5. John 5:22-24 22 The Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son, 23 that all may honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. 24 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.

  6. John 3:16-18 16“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

  7. Understanding Sin Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God… 1 John 3:4 Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness.

  8. Sin’s Consequence Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Isaiah 59:2 but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.

  9. Luke 16 – The Rich Man 24 And he called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.’ 27 And he said, ‘Then I beg you, father, to send him to my father’s house—28 for I have five brothers—so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment.’

  10. Romans 5:8 6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— 8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
