  2. Basketball James Naismith was born in Almonte Ontario November 6, 1861. Basketball was invented December 21, 1891 in Springfield Massachusetts by James Naismith, while he was trying to find something for his gym class to do on a rainy day. Basketball was originally invented to keep soldiers in shape. Basketball is a team sport, the objective being to shoot a ball through a horizontally positioned hoop to score points, while following a set of rules. Usually, two teams of five players play on a marked rectangular court with a hoop at each width end.

  5. Jackie Robinson

  6. Jackie Robinson • It was on April 18, 1946 that Jackie Robinson stepped onto the field in Jersey City, New Jersey in a Royals' uniform. In his first game, he displayed the kind of play that would make him a legend: he drove in four runs with four hits and stole two bases. Jackie broke the colour barrier by proving that black people are just as good a athlete as white people. It was a very important step in terms of equal rights.
