This educational resource explores heat transfer by examining everyday situations, such as holding a chocolate bar. It explains how heat moves from warmer objects (like your hand) to cooler ones (like the chocolate), causing melting. The activity encourages partners to observe a series of ten photos depicting various heat transfer scenarios, including hatching chicks, hot springs, and boiling eggs. Participants will analyze evidence of heat movement, identify sources of heat, and generate questions about each scenario, fostering a deeper understanding of thermal dynamics.

Question… • What happens when you hold a piece of chocolate in your hand?? …..and don’t just say it melts!!!
Answer… • A persons hand has a higher temperature than the chocolate bar and heat moves from WARMER matter to COOLER matter. • This in turn causes the chocolate to melt.
There are 10 photos on the following slides which depict everyday situations involving heat transfers • With your partner, observe each scene and consider how heat is moving in that picture. • You should consider: • What makes you think heat is moving; is there any evidence that you see showing heat transfer? • Where does the heat come from and where does it go? • What questions do you have about this situation?
