  5. West Covina Apartments • Rent • $675 (average) for a single • $1200 (average) for a double • Distance from CPP = about 15 miles • Utilities included • Other Amenities • On site laundry, pets allowed, pool, furnished or unfurnished depending on price

  6. Cal Poly Pomona Dorms • Cost : $6,800 a year • Distance from campus = 0 miles • Utilities included but minimal availability • Food included : 10 meals a week plus $100 for food monthly • Other Amenities • Large parking lot, laundry mat

  7. Analysis • Rent • Apartments : $6800 (single), $6000 (double) • Dorms : $6800 (double) • Food • Apartments : Not included • Dorms: Provided • Distance • Apartments : 30 miles round trip daily (extra $300-$400) a month

  8. Our Choice • Cost roughly about the same as the dorms • Food costs are easily controlled, vs. mandatory by dorms • Extra fuel costs can be controlled by clever class scheduling • Extra amenities appealing • #1 reason, the sense of independence not available in the dorms
