UK Undergraduate Degrees In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, the majority of Honours degrees are 3 years in duration with specialisation from the outset In Scotland, the majority of degrees are 4 years (Honours) This is because Scottish degrees have lots of flexibility and choice of subjects to study in lower years, with specialisation by third year Often this gives students the opportunity to sample several subjects before choosing in which to specialise Ancient universities confer Master of Arts (MA) for undergraduate degrees in social sciences

Catered Accommodation Based at Pollock Halls, which accommodates just over 2,000 first year students within 9 ‘Houses’ Mixture of twin, ensuite rooms, and single rooms (with either ensuite or shared facilities) available – depending on the House selected All Houses have common rooms and shared pantries Pollock Halls’ facilities also include 2 squash courts, shop, computing micro lab, bar and cafes Resident Assistants (RAs) organise social and sporting events for residents; help new students to mingle with others

Self Catered Accommodation Accommodation for over 2,000 first year students in 14 blocks of flats All centrally located Mix of purpose built and recently renovated On average 150 students per block of flats with 3-6 people per flat Students share bathroom & kitchen/living area Some twin rooms available Flat Managers in charge of maintenance and welfare of students, helped by Resident Assistants

Costs of Accommodation • Cost per week depends on the accommodation you choose: • £57 - £102 for self-catered • £110 - £216 for catered • 34 week let (inc Christmas but not Easter) • Rent includes central heating, electricity, • cleaner, phone and data facilities & personal contents insurance • Rooms have 24 hour access to the internet • After first year, majority choose to live in private accommodation • The Accommodation Office can offer guidance and advice on finding a place to live

Accepting your offer • UCAS / University sends confirmation letter • Visa requirements / applying for your visa • Supply passport information when requested • Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) issued by the University • University issues joining instructions: • Available online / hard copy • Formal letter of admission • Information about the School you have applied to and the University’s services to help you prepare for life at Edinburgh • Introductory meetings with your School
