The Power of Nazi Propaganda: Film as a Tool for Influence

This presentation explores how the Nazis utilized film as a potent form of propaganda during their reign. Under the leadership of Joseph Goebbels and the establishment of the Ministry of Propaganda in 1933, the Third Reich heavily influenced the German film industry. Movies produced promoted Aryan ideals, showcased military strength, and vilified enemies. By controlling film production and content, the Nazis shaped public perception, ensuring that only their views were represented. This effectively persuaded the German populace to embrace Nazi ideology and reject alternative viewpoints.

  1. Nazi Propaganda When the Nazis were in power, they used a lot of propaganda. In this presentation we will be telling you how the Nazis used films for propaganda and how persuasive it was. On March 11, 1933, The third Reich established a Ministry of Propaganda, appointing Joseph Goebbels as its Minister.

  2. How the Nazis used films for propaganda The Nazis produced many films to promote their views. Themes included the virtues of the Nordic or Aryan type, German military and industrial strength, and the evils of the Nazi enemies. On September 22, 1933, a Department of Film was incorporated into the Chamber of Culture. The department controlled the licensing of every film prior to its production. Sometimes, the government would select the actors for a film, financing the production partially or totally, and would grant tax breaks to the producers. Under Goebbels and Hitler, the German film industry became entirely nationalised. The National Socialist Propaganda Directorate, which Goebbels oversaw, had at its disposal nearly all film agencies in Germany by 1936. This persuaded people to believe the Nazis ideas because the films all made the Nazis look good and could only have Nazi views in it.

  3. Did it persuade people? Using films for propaganda persuaded people to believe the Nazi ideas because all films made the Nazis look good and the films could only have Nazi views in it. German people were no longer led to believe in any other ways but the Nazi ways.
