  2. Where does the journey begin? How do I become that? Education/Training needed for your career(s) of interest. What, then, can I become? Career options based on “Who Am I?”…. Who Am I? Skills, Interests, Values & Lifestyle Preference

  3. Georgetown Univ. 62% of all jobs will require at least some college or career training other than high school classes!

  4. Choose your Senior Year Classes Carefully… Senior Social Studies and…? Occupational Education: VisCom, Marketing, Accounting, Oly Bear, Power Tech, Woods, Ceramics, Foods, Art, Sports Medicine, etc. Additional Science, World Language, or advanced level(s) of previously taken electives Advanced Placement class(es) in area(s) of strength &/or interest & possibly earn college credit New Market Skill Center Professional Medical Careers Pre-Vet Tech (1YS) Environmental Exploration (1YS) AMPS: Alternative Energy (3YM) Graphic Design (1YA) Collision Repair Construction Trades DigiPen Comp. Sci. Culinary Arts Cosmetology Running Start Can take ALL remaining classes at SPSCC OR take a few classes to get a start on earning credits for college OR take a few classes that aren’t at OHS OR….? **Showcase on March 28th**

Assessments for your Post High School Plan • 4-year College = SAT/ACT • Register for May 3rdSAT by April 4th • Register for June 7thSAT by May 9th • Register for June 14th ACT by May 9th • 2-year College = Accuplacer/Compass • Same test that’s used for Running Start • Best to take near end of senior year • Military = ASVAB(Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) • Skills test in 8 different areas • Do NOT have to be interested in the military to take this exam, and the recruiters do not receive your score • Gives you great info. about potential careers that match your skills • Will be given again next October….

  8. Apprenticeship You CanEarn While You Learn Higher Wages, Transferrable Certificate & Skills (equivalent of a 4-year degree!), and increased Advancement Potential…. Most require you to be 18. Openings happen when demand requires more workers. Health Care, Public Safety, Construction Trades, Manufacturing, Culinary Preparation & Serving

Other Factors to Consider…. • Whether applying for a job or college admission, there’s more to getting an offer (of employment or enrollment) than just your grades & test scores: • Extracurricular Activities: • Clubs, Music, Drama, Sports, Leadership, Youth Groups, Activism • Community Service: • Church affiliated, school clubs, tutoring, community organizations • Getting involved is about more than building your resume…. It’s about improving your skills and defining your interests too!
