  1. Engineering Mechanics MODULE-1

  2. Q. : Fig , shows a sphere resting in a smooth V shaped groove and subjected to a spring force. The spring is compressed to a length of 100mm from its free length of 150mm. If the stiffness of spring is 2N/mm, determine the contact reactions at A and B. Solution Since, Spring force(F) = K.x

  3. Given that K = 2N/mm x = 150 – 100 = 50mm F = 2 × 50 = 100N ...(i) Let RA and RB be the contact reaction at Pont A and B. Here wt of sphere and F are collinear force, both act down ward so the net force is = 100 + 40, acting down ward. Apply lami’s theorem at point O On solving

  4. Q. : Three sphere A, B and C having their diameter 500mm, 500mm and 800mm respectively are placed in a trench with smooth side walls and floor as shown in fig.Thecenter to center distance of spheres A and B is 600mm. The weights of the cylinders A, B and C are 4KN, 4KN and 8KN respectively. Determine the reactions at P, Q, R and S.
