  1. Cross section measurements at LNL M.Mezzetto (INFN-Pd) on behalf of INFN-LNL: M. Cinausero, G. De Angelis,G. Prete

  2. The INFN Legnaro Laboratory • 3 ElettrostaticAccelerators • - Tandem XTU (16 MV) • - Van derGraff (7 MV) • - An 2000 (2 MV) 1 Linac - Alpi SC SPES Area 2 MeV VdG 7 MV VdG Exp Hall Exp Halls SC PIAVE Tandem 1 RFQ injector - Piave SC SC Linac ALPI Experimental Halls - About 10 Detection systems 1 RIB Facility planned - SPES (ISOL)

  3. A new approach for b-beam Beam cooling with ionization losses – C. Rubbia, A Ferrari, Y. Kadi and V. Vlachoudis in NIM A 568 (2006) 475–487 “Many other applications in a number of different fields may also take profit of intense beams of radioactive ions.” 7Li(d,p)8Li 6Li(3He,n)8B 7Li 6Li 20-30 MeV Cross section and Angular distribution measurements See also: Development of FFAG accelerators and their applications for intense secondary particle production, Y. Mori, NIM A562(2006)591

  4. Experiments at Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro TANDEM-LINAC accelerator complex Inverse kinematic reaction 7Li beam at 10-30 MeV Target: deuterated plastic 7Li + d 8Li + p Protons detected with 8pLP: 4p DE-E hodoscope Si+CsI(Tl) Detection Energy range: 2° to 24° : 1-64 AMeV 34° to 177°: 1-34 AMeV,

  5. Experiments at Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro 7Li 126 energy spectra 7 angles (per run) Ball: 30 cm inner diameter 126 DE-E telescopes (collimated + 1°) 300 mm Si - 5 mm CsI(Tl) angular range 34° to 177° 7 rings, 18 telescopes per ring.

  6. Experiments at Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro 7Li • First Experiment performed in July 2008 • Inverse kinematic reaction: • 7Li + Cd2 target E=25 MeV • Data reduction in progress • Problems (technical): • Background reactions on the C Matrix • Proton spectra contaminated • Absolute Normalization needed • Problem (political): • Shortening in humane resources due to Italian government cut of INFN positions

  7. What next Analyze data and evaluate contamination problems EU support for a research fellowship Possible future improvements: a) Better REACTION IDENTIFICATION detecting HEAVY FRAGMENTS in coincidence with p Detector developments - TOF measurements of Li ions Electromagnetic separation (MAGNEX spectrometer, available at LNS) b) More CLEAN TARGET Duterons adsorbed into heavy matrix (Pt, no reaction on matrix) Gas jet target (not available at LNL) Cryogenic target (not available at LNL)
