The floorboards were plastered with mud. • When the rangers went to jump start the Datsun, it started with ease. • When they searched the Vin number on the Datsun, it reported that it had NOT been associated with any crimes. • Chris had originally camped in Detrital Wash area just after graduating college, and was still excited to start his journey. Chris was so excited that he ignored the Flash Flood warnings and got caught in one. The flash flood temporarily flooded the engine. • Chris in his impatiens tried to start the car multiple times and drained the Datsun’s battery. • Chris decides to abandon the Datsun and continue on foot. He concealed the car (under the tarp), hid his license plates, buried his gun, and burned all of his currency ( money). We know all of this because it was in his journal that he left with Wayne. She said Jack London was his favorite. • Jan also commented about the fact that he was a Musician and singer. • The only thing Chris had ever said about his background to Jan was that he was from the D.C. area.
