  2. Mindanao: The Region in Constant Conflict • Six peace processes means 6 major Conflicts present in the country….4 of which are very much present in Mindanao.

  3. The Peace Processes • MNLF – GRP –started in 1976, signed peace agreement in 1996 and still on going up to now • MILF – GRP – most visible, started formally in 1997 with Ceasefire Agreement, 2008 was the last bloody encounter between the forces • CPP/NPA/NDF – GRP –now engaged in peace talks, off and on relationship since 1986 • RPMM - GRP –started in 2005, now stalled

  4. While all the talks are on going…the hard realities remain… • Biases and prejudices still persist amongst our people • Communities affected by conflict are becoming poorer everyday

  5. While all the talks are on going…the hard realities remain… • Remains the most undeveloped…even if the communities are already tired of war and violence, yet the cycle of violence and war still occurs every two to three years

  6. Two Basic Questions • How can we contribute to resolve conflict and promote peace? • What in particular should we focus ourselves to promote peace, whether there is a peace process or none? (is the most important question for institutions and persons who want contribute to peace in our region?)

  11. In Promoting Peace • Organize TVIs activities (or even fundraising) promoting peace and encourage interfaith and tri-people dialogue like Sports for peace, FUN RUN (run for peace), Bike for peace, etc.

  12. In Enterprising Peace • Promoting peace by promoting/marketing products and handmade crafts made collectively, creatively and by peaceful means • Organize Fair Trade

  13. Helping demobilize a hundred thousand militias and making them productive members of our society (mnlf-gem model) Challenges Ahead • Helping promote an entrepreneurship spirit among tri-peoples of Mindanao thereby influencing skeptics to creatively discourage them from taking arms thus cutting the cycle of violence and war culture…
