Assignment - to be turned in as a special memo on 09/28/05 • Given the basic vehicle design architecture diagram, identify which group(s) and subsystem(s) has primary responsibility for each of the following vehicle components and what other groups need to be consulted in the decision process: • Tires • Exhaust • Fuel Tank • Controller Area Network (CAN Bus) • Engine Mounts CG_AFV_091405

  4. Assignment, cont’d- Note there are two options for this problem. If you are interested in vehicle design, please answer the following question: 2VD) Compare the drawbacks and benefits of purchasing/modifying an existing vehicle platform versus designing/building a vehicle platform from scratch. Identify two potential platforms for purchase. List performance and vehicle specifications wherever possible, and note short comings and degree of modifications that would be necessary to increase performance. CG_AFV_091405

If you are interested in alternative fuels, please answer the following question: 2AF) Suppose we wish to power the vehicle in silent propulsion mode using an alternative fuel. Identify five potential alternative fuel sources for use. List advantages and disadvantages wherever possible, especially with respect to the usefulness of each alternative fuel source in a field-based military application. CG_AFV_091405

  6. Assignment, cont’d- • Make an assumption for the propulsion mechanism (wheels or track) of the vehicle. Based on that assumption, start to develop a more detailed vehicle specification. For example: X, Y, Z dimensions? Weight, CG location, Wheelbase? Power Required? Weight and Volume of powerplant? Ground Pressure? Wheelbase? # of Wheels? Wheel Diameter? OR # of Tracks? Track Length/Width Identify specifications that your vehicle may not meet CG_AFV_091405
